BeWiFi Long Gully Node

Last Friday the 26th of June, Stef Stanway from Sandhurst IT Services and I started work on the new node in Long Gully. The node consists of three 120º/40º 9dBi 2.4GHz Sector Antennas powered by 3 Ubiquiti SR2 mini-pci cards on a Mikrotik Routerboard 433. The backhaul is one 24dBi 5.8GHz parabolic reflector with a Ubiquiti Bullet5 radio.

Only two of the sectors are fired up at this point, everything in a southerly (slightly west also) area is covered, and easterly. the 'northern' sector is yet to be put online. This covers most of Bendigo including, Flora Hill, White Hills, Golden Square, Huntly the list goes on. I will post an RF plot as soon as I have time.

This is (at least known to be) the highest privately owned property in Bendigo, with 360º views. Mt. Macedon can be seen from there, aswell as Mt. Alexander, One Tree Hill, Big Hill, Mt. Tarrangowa, the Loddon Mallee region, Mt. Isa......

We have only done preliminary tests, but have made successful links in Quarry Hill and Flora Hill.

This node will also provide some Internet access to the next BLAM (http://www.bendigolan.com) and will in the future allow connectivity to BLAM from anywhere on the BeWiFi network as well as an Internet Hotspot at the Bendigo Showgrounds.

A special thanks goes out to Southern Cross Hire for the use of their tower!
